PSA: Just Say No To Temporary Tattoos

I'll go ahead and start this post off with the positive... last Monday night the kids and I got to go to a Padres game.  Yay!  Always a highlight of our visits back to San Diego.  The game was fun... the Padres won in extra innings, the kids were both good, it wasn't too cold, we found good parking... the list really could go on and on.  It's rare that we walk away from any baseball game with complaints... we are a baseball loving family, what can I say.

Before I get into the negative of the evening, I'll post some fun happy pictures to ease you into the nastiness that is the SD temporary tattoo that Savannah was given at the game.

So here starts the serious part of the post... before the game started on Monday night we were cruising the ballpark checking things out when one of the Jr. Padres recruiters came up to us and tried to get us to sign up.  I politely declined, explaining that we now live in Texas... we chit chatted a little more and then he offered the kids some temporary tattoos.  Savannah happily accepted.  She loves those things... most kids do, right.  I am used to (and almost expect it by now) going into the bathroom at baseball games to put the temporary tattoos on Savannah's cheek.  Sometimes I join in on the fun and put one on mine too.  So into the bathroom we went... I put one that said Padres on one of her cheeks and then I put a large heart one with SD printed on it on her other cheek.  She loved them... the night went on... the game ended... we went home and went to bed.  Like most other times that Savannah has had temporary tattoos on, she fell asleep with them on her face.  I thought nothing of it... we have done it a thousand times before... sometimes she has left them on for days.  I'm sure most parents will understand... those dang temporary tattoos are a pain to scrub off, so I have found that the let it run it's course approach is the way to go.  Usually within a day or two it rubs off on it's own and all is good.  The next day Savannah told me that her face was hurting.  When I turned to look and see what was wrong I noticed a huge red mark where the heart tattoo used to be.  Upon further examination I realized that the tattoo had burned a layer of her skin off.  I wasn't quite sure how in the hell that happens or why this particular tattoo had done that, all I knew is that last I saw (probably thirty minutes before) the tattoo was intact in it's original condition on her cheek... no red mark, no burns... just an SD heart.  Even the doctor's office was absolutely confused about what had happened.  yes, I called the doctor... I was not sure how to treat her face.  I was told by the nurse that she had suffered a first degree chemical burn and to watch it very closely and to treat it with neosporin and not to cover it up with a bandage.  Seriously... a first degree chemical burn!!!  From a temporary tattoo!!!  This is no joke, people.  Obviously it goes without saying that we will no longer be using temporary tattoos of any kind.  Savannah does not have sensitive skin or any other condition that could have caused this to happen.  It was the tattoo and it is insane and very very upsetting.  Right now we are watching and treating the burn and hoping that it does not scar her face.

Savannah proudly displaying her temporary tattoo at the game.  Little did we know the harm this heart tat would cause.

This is what her cheek looked like right after she told me that it was hurting her.

This is what the burn looked like once the temporary tattoo was soaked off with warm water.  The burn has gotten worse and worse each day.  Hopefully it scabs off soon.

So here is my two cents... JUST SAY NO TO TEMPORARY TATTOOS!!  Odds are they probably will never harm you or you kids... but what if there is one time that does.  Your kid should never have to experience a burn like this.

Insta-Friday

Another week done with means that we are another week closer to the end of school, and even better than that, another week closer to leaving for San Diego.  The next two weeks are going to be pretty crazy around here.  We have graduation and end of the year parties... plus packing and stuff.  Bring on the good times.

Saturday night's family dinner at our campsite.  Savannah and I were both pretty happy to see Ryder.  We miss that little guy when he's not around.

This next picture is absolutely precious.  Savannah and her BFF Olivia fell asleep holding hands.  I love that they make each other fell safe and happy.  So thankful that Savannah and Olivia met this year.    So thankful that Olivia has really cool parents.  Hopefully these girls have years of hanging out ahead of them.

Tuesday night we went to the Rangers game with some of Eric's coworkers.  They were all in town for a training/meeting and Eric being Eric made sure to schedule in a Ranger game for all of them to attend.  Not a shocker.  It was a good time... the kids were better than normal.  They are always good at games, but the stars aligned and they were picture perfect.  At one point Ryder went and sat on Eric's boss' lap for quite a while.  He never does that with strangers.  I don't know what was up with them... but I'll take it.

I just can't seem to fight off the Texan inside of her.  Boots at a baseball game, really???  Yes, really.  This little girl insisted.

This is what the day after staying out until 10pm at a baseball game looks like.  Sleepy cranky totally worn out little guy.

Our Happy Place

Last night we went to our first baseball game of the season.  This is always pretty exciting for us.  Baseball season is by far our favorite time of the year.  Savannah loves going to the games and Ryder is  getting easier to take to the games.  Last season he went to several, but he was a baby and this year he is a toddler and wanting to explore everything at the ballpark.  Eric and I say it all the time, and maybe one day it will be feasible, season tickets sure would be nice.  We are one family that would get so much enjoyment out of that.  For now, we will just keep going to every game we get the chance to.

My favorite picture of the night.  The kids watching batting practice.

My first attempt at a self taken family shot... oops, no Savannah.

Second attempt... Savannah is in and Ryder is looking away... pretty much the best I am going to get.

The look on Ryder's face as Bella helps herself to his food cracks me up.

Third attempt at a family picture and E is too busy watching the game.

So much about this picture makes me laugh.  The faces of the people behind E, the obvious photo bomb by the not so conspicuous dude, Ryder's extremely joyful smile on his face, Savannah creeping in the corner of the picture, o the fact that E looks like he is having the absolute worst time of his life.

Insta-Friday

Last weekend the weather was Ah-mazing.  The whole fam spent pretty much all day both days outside playing.  I love those kind of days... kids sleep better, parents are happier.  Life is good.

She shows off her toothless smile every chance she gets.

Wacky Wednesday at school.  After I finished her hair (which she requested) and she looked in the mirror, she got a little nervous about going to school looking like this.  She told me that she thought kids would laugh at her.  I asked her if she liked her hair, she answered yes, so I told her that was all that matters.  I gave her the opportunity to have me take her hair down and was so pleased and proud that she wanted it to stay in.  The first thing she told me when I picked her up from school was that everyone loved her hair and thought it looked so cool.  Days like this make me very happy to be raising a child who can be brave and do her own thing.

After school snack time with brother.  His day always gets a whole lot better when sissy gets home.

Torn, totally torn.  Is he a Rangers fan... is he a Padres fan??  Both?  All I know is that we are so ready for baseball season!

A Little Rain Doesn't Hurt

A rainy dreary day might make some folks cancel their plans to go to a baseball game... I could even see how an hour plus rain delay might stop you from going... not us though, we were just as excited to load up and head to the Rangers game.  We had been looking forward to this game for several weeks now, so there was no way we were not going to make the best of it.  Luckily, our seats were covered and killing time during the delay was actually pretty easy and fun.  Once the game started both kids were great, the game went quickly, and then we got to see one of my favorite bands play on the field after the game.  It's not often that everything ends up working out the way you planned and both kids are easy peasy to be out with... it was a good day!

Waiting out the rain in the car.  The rain ended up winning and we eventually had to just et out and walk in it.

Baseball, beer, and babies... oh how times have changed.

Daddy smile!!!

Love my little backwards baseball hat wearing girl.

Haynes fam... upper deck and out of the rain!!

E, I don't care what you say... this hat looks so stinkin' cute on him.  Straight bill on the little ones is adorable.

Baseball With My BFF

This past Saturday night one of my oldest and dearest girl friends joined me and the kids for some Padres baseball.  Savannah loved having Karen (who is essentially a big kid) to play with, Ryder fell instantly in love with her, and I thoroughly enjoyed having her there to talk and laugh with.  One of the many things I miss about living in San Diego.  I don't know if it get any better than a baseball game with your BFF.

Ryder has officially conquered the hill.  He can go up and down like a champ.  He also had some pretty big firsts while we were at the game.  He clapped for the first time... so cute!  He also stood by himself several times, each time longer and more balanced.  I can not believe how close he is to realizing he can use those legs of his for walking.

Savannah finally was brave enough to go and play baseball with the big kids.  No tee, and no adults to help... just her swinging at the pitch all on her own.  Big girl status!

Rangers Come to SD and Some Summer Bucket List (#18) Action

Holy crazy three days of household rivalry baseball.  Eric's Rangers were in SD this week to play the Padres for three games.  Of course he planned his vacation out here around that series.  Well, not only him... but also our good friends Scott and Michelle and their little girl... and also another one of Eric's friends flew out to go to the games with us.  So during the day we jumped around from one SD sight to the next and then at night we went to the ball games.  Savannah was able to cross #18 (go to a baseball game) off her summer bucket list.  For each game we had a pretty good sized group (mostly Rangers fans, ugh.) for each game.  I wish I could say that the Padres played well and that I was able to rub some big fat victories in Eric's face, but that was not the case.  Those dang Rangers swept my Padres.  Now Eric has bragging rights for the time being.

GAME ONE
The Ladies of our group

and the boys...

during batting practice before game one Pitcher Joe Nathan was out on the field signing autographs for fans.  I pushed my way up to the front with Savannah so she could get him to sign her hat.  Woo hoo... autograph success!

The end of a very long game one.

GAME TWO:
We got our seats out in the park area for game two.  One of my absolute favorite places to watch a game... especially if you are going with kids.  Such a family friendly area.  The kids can be loud and run around.  The adults can hang out a have a beer.  All while still getting the ambiance of the Padres game.

Savannah and Uncle Ry Ry playing catch.

The most amusing part of the night... trying to get the two babies to crawl down the pretty steep grassy hill.  At one point Ryder face plated pretty hard (video below).  So funny.

GAME THREE:
Finally, a day game!!  This called for sandbox tickets.  Love these seats.... bleacher style concrete seats with a huge sand area below for the kids to play.  We brought in some beach toys and let the kids go to town while the adults watched the game.

Another one bites the dust... up next, camping at the beach!
