One of my most favorite summer activities while I was growing up was camping at the beach. We would load up and head out to the Silver Strand for a week at a time. So so so much fun! I really do not know if there is anything better than falling asleep and waking up to the sound of the ocean waves. A few months back when I found out that Eric and our friends were coming out to SD for a week I knew that I had to find a way to squeeze in a beach camping trip for them. Thank goodness I did, because they all loved it, in fact, I am pretty sure it was their favorite part of the week. It was a little chaotic with two babies, one 5 year old, and four adults all trying to squeeze inside an old school Winnebago. We made it work though. Close quarters didn't stop us from having the beat time possible. I have already been searching for more available days out at the Strand so that I can possibly go back out for a week with the kids before we head back to Texas.
At the campsite next to us there was a little boy about Savannah's age that she instantly noticed and wanted to go say hi to. So I walked her over and introduced ourselves to the little guy (Elijah) and his grandparents. From that moment on the two of them were inseparable the entire day. Made me laugh because back when we were making our summer bucket list she wanted to add "Make a new friend" to it. I kind of laughed and said let's think of something else instead. I guess Savannah went ahead and made a new friend anyhow. So we can go ahead and say that "Make a new friend" can be crossed of as our honorary #23.
At night when it's time to come off the beach the adults typically sit around a fire and hang out and you can usually find the kids riding bikes around the campground. Savannah and Elijah rode circles around our campsite that evening.
A beach day isn't complete until somebody has been buried in the sand. My dad decided it would be fun to bury Savannah and turn her into a mermaid.
One of my favorite pictures... love my boys! They had so much fun playing at the beach together.
Another item checked off our list. So far we are kicking butt and really enjoying participating in The Happy Family Movement's summer bucket list challenge.
