South Of The Border

Since my dad is now living down in Mexico, there was no way we could get away with not venturing south of the border for a visit.  I'm very happy that we made the trip.  Savannah is now old enough that she was able to notice and question cultural differences.  She pointed out things about Mexico that she liked (the shopping, the food, the fruit) and things that she did not like (the military carrying guns at the grocery store, the border wait).  Overall, she loved her time down at Bob's house and is already asking when she can go back.  Ryder was totally oblivious to the fact that we had crossed over into another country.  Traveling with him and his food allergies down to Mexico was actually not as stressful as I thought it was going to be.  My dad's girlfriend was able to communicate fluently and find out ingredients in things for me.  Surprisingly, the items he is allergic to were not in a lot of the mexican food down there.  Yet, they make up most of the ingredients in the mexican food here in the states… crazy.  I don't get it.

One of the days that we were down there we went and did the touristy shopping, margarita drinking, and lobster eating thing in Puerto Nuevo.  It was a lot of fun.

Obligatory ridiculous sombrero and tecate drinking touristy pictures.  You just gotta do it.

A $5.00 Captain America mask/cape combo… you just don't pass up an awesome deal like that.  It was hilarious watching Ryder cruise through Puerto Nuevo wearing his cape.

Savannah with my dad's girlfriend's kids people watching on the patio of the restaurant we ate at.

The lobsters at the place we ate were HUGE!

A Day With Bob

Today Savannah got something that she hasn't been getting very often these days.  She got a whole day of quality one on one time.  Even better, it was with Bob!  Our struggle with her jealousy and feelings of being left out has been ongoing... some days are better than others.  It has improved a lot since school started, but there still are some days that she gets jealous.  While I am constantly trying to explain to her why brother or whoever else gets and needs that extra attention, it's hard at times because I can see where she is coming from.  The truth of the matter is that she rarely ever gets one on one time with anyone.  There is always someone else... a sibling, another baby, a cousin, a friend, a teammate... you get the picture.  So when my dad asked if he could take her all day to go do stuff, I quickly said yes.  They didn't go do anything huge or crazy or over the top... they went and did normal everyday things that would be so much more enjoyable for her without anyone else there to share Bob with.  It seems so simple and ordinary, but this is exactly the type of day Savannah needed.  Starbucks, mall, movie, pet store... she had such a good time.  It was the perfect amount of Savannah time... her batteries are recharged and she is feeling very loved.

Insta-Friday

Thanks to the beautiful weather this past week, we have been able to spend a lot more time outside.

Just maybe this kid supports the Florida Gators a little bit... her daddy wasn't a fan of the dress, but her Uncle Ry Ry sure was.

One evening after school Savannah and I made a trip to the library by our house.  We finished reading the book she check out last time, so that needed to be returned and I promised her she could check out another.  Little girl was in heaven.  She wanted to look at ever single book.... literally.  Checking out just one book wasn't going to do it for her.  So we came to an agreement... she picks out one chapter book that we can read out of each night and then two books that she can flip through and read on her own.  Our chapter book was another one about a girl in school... she thinks those are pretty funny.  The two others... one about dinosaurs and one about Elvis, shocker!

Finally kicked Ryder's baby bathtub to the curb and let him bathe in the big kids tun with his sister.  The two of them had so much fun playing and splashing and making a crazy mess on the floor in the bathroom,

Well, it was bound to happen eventually.  On Tuesday Savannah had a little trouble being quiet during rest time.  Oops.  Apparently her and her BFF Hayden (He gave her a cross, so it's official, they are BFFs) had a lot to talk about and failed to follow directions and be quiet.  Pretty minor on the scale of trouble, but still something that we had to talk about at home.  The rest of the week went a lot better for her.  No more checks on the bad squares.

One of Savannah's drawings from the week... Elvis.  Blue jumpsuit Elvis to be exact.

SURPRISE!!!  Bob is here!  He flew in yesterday to hang out for a few days.  We kept it a secret from Savannah.  After picking up Bob from the airport we headed up to Savannah's school and waited for her to be dismissed.  I stayed out of the way and let Bob stand out where she could see him.  She was so surprised and excited when she saw her Bob.  It was the perfect surprise for her.
