DELAYED

One of the best ways to test your parental patience is to be delayed at the airport for 6 hours with an almost 2 year old. I love the little girl, but Lord help me, I was ready to snap. Our flight was scheduled to leave SD Sunday night at 5:30 pm Cali time. However, due to "mechanical problems" the flight was delayed until 9:15 pm. So there we were sitting at the airport at 3:30 in the afternoon ready to leave in a couple hours and instead find out that we are trapped there until after 9pm. Shortly after finding out our flight was delayed Savannah peed through her pants. Apparently her diaper had only been put on one booty cheek so the pee just passed right by the diaper and straight through the pants. Awesome. I had to take her in the bathroom, spot clean the pants, and then use the hand dryer to dry them. So far so good, right?! Savannah had her moments where she was really good... listening, sitting, playing, sweet girl. There were far more moments of complete bratty spaz child. She was running all over the terminal, climbing on the chairs, laying down and pitching fits in the middle of the waiting area, yelling, crying... OMG... I was ready to cry. I tried to stay as patient as I could. I am aware that the situation was in no way ideal and probably even harder on her since she was so tired and there really was NOTHING for her to do but be a brat. By the time the plane arrived and we were allowed to board she was spent. She said a few "plane fun mommy" and then she crashed. We both slept the entire flight home. Thank God it was an empty flight... we had our own row so Savannah was able to lay down. We are doing much better after a day of our normal routine and one good night of sleep. It's safe to say that I have no desire to travel via plane with a child any time in the near future.
