Savannah had a special request for her birthday this year. She asked me if instead of getting gifts at her party, if she could collect shoes for other kids instead. Apparently she had seen a show or something where a girl had done that for her birthday and Savannah decided she wanted to do the same. Of course we said yes, Eric and I were all about it. We made sure to sit down and talk with her about how it would work, and make sure she understood what she would be asking her party goers to do. She insisted that she understood that she would not be getting gifts, and that she was okay with that. So that is what we did... we collected shoes at her party... 47 pairs. WOW! I figured we would get 20 maybe, not nearly 50. Savannah was so excited about how many shoes she had been given to donate. Today after she got out of school we loaded up the shoes and took them to the local domestic violence shelter. Savannah was so excited to give her shoes to them. She had a huge smile on her face... and when we got back in the car she told me that she had so much fun doing this and that she can't wait to do it again. Thank you so much to everyone who brought shoes to Savannah's party, she appreciated it more than you will ever know.
