First up on the agenda when we arrived... some gardening. Savannah's absolute favorite thing to do while at the farm. She is so attentive to everything Grandma tells her while in the garden. Savannah knows all the different veggies and plants that are growing, and even the proper way to pick some of them. She is even getting better at planting the actual seeds. Her favorite plant in the garden would have to be mint, hands down. She loves the smell and the taste... that child ate so much mint while we were there. As a nice little treat for Savannah, her Grandma sent her home with several different mint plants for Savannah to plant and grow here at the house. As soon as the rain stops, I am sure we will be outside getting Savannah's mini garden all set up.
After gardening Papaw wanted to take Savannah to pick some wild blackberries. This is actually one of my favorite things to do at the farm. Last year we made a blackberry pie with the ones we picked... so good. To get out tot he field Savannah got to do her second favorite farm activity... 4 wheeling! She is crazy for the 4 wheeler. Which is funny, because I can remember a time not too long ago when we would have to bribe her to get her to go for a ride with us on the 4 wheeler. Definitely not the case now. When we got out to the berries I wasn't sure how Savannah was going to do with the insane heat and the mass amount of thorns/stickers you have to mess with to get the berries. I was pleasantly surprised, not one complaint. She was so into finding all the ripe berries... Eric and I did not have to help her at all. I was even more blown away with what happened after we were done picking berries. She walked up to me and told me that her hand kind of hurt. Sure enough, her hands were covered in tiny little splinter like thorns. She was such a tough little girl... she stood there while her dad used his teeth to pull every single one out of her hand. I'm not sure I would be that tough. Craziness.
On Saturday Savannah got a big surprise... the Easter bunny visited the garden and left special treats all around for her. I had wanted to do an Easter egg hunt while we were down there, but Eric said it probably wouldn't be the best idea because of the amount of snakes that are hiding all around. So I was pretty bummed. Grandma had the great idea to hide the eggs in the garden, a confined area where you are probably not going to see a snake, fantastic. So we ran off to hide eggs while Savannah and daddy went 4 wheeling. She had a blast running through the garden looking for eggs. Every time she found one she would yell out "I found one in the squash" or "can you believe the Easter bunny put one in the tomatoes" ... so funny.
Saturday evening Papaw spent some time teaching Savannah how to fish. By the end of their lesson she was pretty good at casting and reeling in her own line. She was pretty frustrated that she didn't catch anything, but she had fun anyhow.
