One last post about our recent Thanksgiving road trip, I promise. I saved the best for last... this is the ELVIS post! On the way home from KY we stopped in Memphis for a night. We have been wanting to see Graceland, but have just never had enough time. So we decided to split the drive up into two days and hit up Graceland. Let me tell you, I am so glad that we did. Graceland is AWESOME!! I am not even a huge Elvis fan and I loved the tour. He was one interesting man. HIs house was pure craziness from top to bottom. Savannah was so in awe of everything around her. They gave us headphones to wear while we toured, so Savannah was able to hear all the Elvis facts and stories as we walked through the property. She had so many questions and she made several funny observations. I think she loved the pink cadillac and the gold sinks in the airplane the most. All we have heard about pretty much every single day since out visit is Elvis. She wants us to put Elvis music on her ipod and she is begging us to find an Elvis movie for her to watch. It's pretty neat that after all these years (and from the grave) Elvis still has that special something that lures people to him.

One of the most interesting conversations of the day occurred as we walked through the meditation garden/resting place of Elvis and his parents. She knew that Elvis was dead, but she didn't quite get that he was actually buried right there where we were standing. Then she was confused about why everyone was leaving wreaths and flowers for him and not his parents. Then came the big question, "how did Elvis die?"... Eric let me field that topic. We gave the heart condition story that Graceland was telling and left out all the other adult details. One day when she is old enough, she can read one of the many biographies written about Elvis and learn all the facts. Until then, she is content knowing that Elvis is now up in heaven playing music with God (she actually told me that).
