4 Year Old Well Check

On Friday Savannah had her 4 year old well check appointment. Since turning 2 years old these routine well checks have been pretty quick and easy... and more importantly, pretty painless. I went into Friday's appointment expecting the same quick and painless check-up. A word to all the parents out there who have not yet experienced the 4 year old well check... it is NOTHING like the others. It started out pretty normal, height, weight, and blood pressure. Once that was done a nurse came and took Savannah out of the room to do an eye exam and ask her some questions (I'm assuming about her home life and that sort of thing). While she was gone I was asked close to 50 questions about the safety of our home, Savannah's routine, her eating, her behavior, and such. When the questions were all answered Savannah came back into the room and began a series of cognitive development tests. She stacked blocks, counted, sang a song, was asked to draw a person and several shapes, was shown several pictures where she had to identify objects, was asked to tell a story (any story)... I'm telling you, this portion of the appointment took 40 minutes, if not more. The last part of the appointment was the worst. Savannah had a blast during the cognitive evaluation and was in such a good mood when it ended. Smiling and laughing... talking about how much fun this appointment was. That was until the nurse came back into the room with a tray full of needles. Savannah immediately started asking what those were for. It took all my strength to restrain her while the nurse gave her three shots. Savannah is stronger than she looks... she was kicking and screaming and wiggling all around. I could have really used Eric there to help me hold her. The good news is that she is now fully vaccinated... no more shots until she's 11 years old. All in all it was a good appointment, Savannah passed all the developmental tests... she's a smart cookie, we all knew that. She weighed in at 34 1/4 pounds, which means she is of average weight for her age. She measured 41 1/2 inches tall, which means that she is in the way above average height department. To sum it up, she is a very happy and healthy little girl!

A few hours after we got home from the appointment she was all smiles while playing outside on her swing set.

Love when she laughs. Nothing makes me happier.

This is pretty much how you would typically find Savannah... being loud and crazy.
